La boîte créée par \ vphantom a la hauteur et la profondeur de son argument, mais sa largeur est nulle (elle ne contribue donc à aucun problème d'espacement horizontal). En d'autres termes, \ hphantom crée un espace vertical égal à celui produit par son argument, mais ne crée aucun espace horizontal.
EXEMPLE
\binom{\frac ab}c \binom{\vphantom{\frac ab}?}c$ \ binom {\ frac ab} c \ binom {\ vphantom {\ frac ab}?} c $
