Plik Date objectto typ danych wbudowany w język JavaScript. Obiekty Date są tworzone z nowymDate () jak pokazano w poniższej składni.
Po utworzeniu obiektu Date można na nim operować różnymi metodami. Większość metod pozwala po prostu pobrać i ustawić rok, miesiąc, dzień, godzinę, minutę, sekundę i milisekundę pól obiektu, używając czasu lokalnego lub czasu UTC (uniwersalnego lub GMT).
Standard ECMAScript wymaga, aby obiekt Date mógł przedstawiać dowolną datę i godzinę z dokładnością do milisekund w ciągu 100 milionów dni przed lub po 1 stycznia 1970 roku. Jest to zakres plus minus 273 785 lat, więc JavaScript może reprezentować datę i godzinę do roku 275755.
