O gateway do Istio não consegue se conectar via HTTPS

Oct 13 2020

As implantações em um cluster do GKE com Istio estão funcionando corretamente por meio de HTTP. Mas quando eu tentei protegê-lo com cert-manager com os seguintes recursos, a solicitação HTTPS falha em um estado como curl

`Immediate connect fail for 64:ff9b::2247:fd8a: Network is unreachable
* connect to 34.71.253.138 port 443 failed: Connection refused`.

O que devo fazer para que funcione com HTTPS também.

ClusterIssuer com a seguinte configuração

apiVersion: cert-manager.io/v1alpha2
kind: ClusterIssuer
metadata:
  name: letsencrypt-staging
  namespace: istio-system
spec:
  acme:
    # The ACME server URL
    server: https://acme-staging-v02.api.letsencrypt.org/directory
    # Email address used for ACME registration
    email: [email protected]
    # Name of a secret used to store the ACME account private key
    privateKeySecretRef:
      name: letsencrypt-staging
    solvers:
    # ACME DNS-01 provider configurations
    - dns01:
        # Google Cloud DNS
        clouddns:
          # Secret from the google service account key
          serviceAccountSecretRef:
            name: cert-manager-credentials
            key: gcp-dns-admin.json
          # The project in which to update the DNS zone
          project: iprocure-server

Configuração de certificado como tal, que fez um certificado em estado Pronto: Verdadeiro

apiVersion: cert-manager.io/v1alpha3
kind: Certificate
metadata:
  name: letsencrypt-staging
  namespace: istio-system
spec:
  secretName: letsencrypt-staging
  commonName: "*.iprocure.tk"
  dnsNames:
  - '*.iprocure.tk'
  issuerRef:
    name: letsencrypt-staging
    kind: ClusterIssuer

E por último um Portal

apiVersion: networking.istio.io/v1alpha3
kind: Gateway
metadata:
  name: iprocure-gateway
  namespace: default
spec:
  selector:
    istio: ingressgateway
  servers:
  - port:
      number: 80
      name: http
      protocol: HTTP
    hosts:
    - "*"
    tls:
      httpsRedirect: false
  - port:
      number: 443
      name: https
      protocol: HTTPS
    hosts:
    - "*"
    tls:
      mode: SIMPLE
      credentialName: letsencrypt-staging

Se eu fizer, kubectl describe certificate -n istio-system

    Name: letsencrypt-staging
    Namespace: istio-system
    Labels: <none>
    Annotations: <none>

Correndo kubectl get certificates -o wide -n istio-system, produz

NAME READY SECRET ISSUER STATUS AGE

Questão

Presumo que https não estava funcionando por causa dos requisitos que devem ser ativados se você quiser usar cert-menager com istio em versões mais antigas.

Solução

Como @Yunus Einsteinium mencionado nos comentários

Obrigado por me guiar na direção certa. Usar o OSS Istio, não o GKE, é o caminho a percorrer! Consegui fazer o HTTPS funcionar!

Portanto, a solução aqui foi usar o OOS istio instalado com istioctl em vez do complemento istio gke mais antigo.
