Python 3 Curses Terminal Tetris

En general, parece estructurado, usa buenos nombres, se divide en funciones, etc. Esas son cosas buenas.

Este fragmento de código es muy corto y compacto. Pocas líneas, y usando Python cosas como la comprensión de doble lista. Se hace mucho con pocos bytes de código.
Sin embargo, me resulta difícil leer y no querría cooperar contigo en este proyecto si escribieras mucho código como este, porque tendría que pasar mucho tiempo desenredando y tratando de entender qué hace algo, antes de modificar o ampliarlo. Y si es necesario modificarlo, es posible que deba reescribirse por completo.
Una sugerencia sobre cómo escribirlo de manera diferente, que encuentro más fácil de entender (nuevamente, esto es subjetivo, por supuesto).

Esta función solo maneja una pieza y toma las coordenadas directamente, no le "importa" lo que representan esas coordenadas (una pieza, pero ahora también podría usarse para cualquier otra cosa).
Creo que usar xy yes natural ya que las filas y columnas funcionan como coordenadas en un juego de tetris. Esto es más específico que iy jque a menudo se usa como iteradores para cualquier bucle interno, que no se relaciona necesaria o naturalmente con las coordenadas.
Además, estoy mirando cada caso uno a la vez, no es necesario usar ally "recordar" las piezas simultáneamente. Este es el cambio más importante para que sea legible y fácil de entender pieza por pieza.
Al llamar a la función desde el exterior, ahora tiene sentido usarla all.
