There are lots of ways to get money, good and bad(I'm 14 and I just sell my food at school(people love those mince pies)) but be discreet by how you do it aka don't price anything too high as people won't buy it, it too low as you won't make any money.

U would also consider what you want and depending on your family you could always ask for money at Christmas and your birthday to go towards whatever it is.

Here’s an easy idea if you have the tools and the right neighborhood (Coming from a fellow 13 year old). Mowing yards. As long as you have a decent lawn mower, a weed whacker (optional but really useful), some determination and a broom (to clean up any stray grass on the driveway/sidewalk), it’s definitely something to consider for a ‘first job.’ If you do want to consider doing mowing, here’s some tips:

  • Depending on the size of the yard, I would suggest only charging from $7–$15 for a cut if your a beginner and anywhere from $10–$30 for one cut if you have a lot of experience and plan to include weedwacking/ sweeping or if it’s a huge yard that will take you more then two hours to do a fairly detailed job.
  • Invest in yard bags and a bag for your mower, since you might have clients that don’t want excess grass all over their yard, and a cut just generally looks better if you use a bag.
  • Make sure you are comfortable with your mower. Don’t be afraid to look up tips and videos to adjust say the height of the handle bars or ask your parents if they know things like that.
  • The best neighborhoods to ask people if they want their yard cut are the ones with more elderly homeowners. They will most likely appreciate the help and will enjoy supporting the younger generation (if that makes sense). Another way to get clients is to ask nearby family and friends if they know anyone who could use someone cutting their grass for them
  • Be prepared to work hard. Money never comes easy, (unless you’re rich, but that’s besides the point and you usually have to work hard to get rich in the first place). Bring a hat, water, maybe sunscreen, some music and prepare to spend a few hours doing a good job.
  • And finally, don’t rush through it. Take the time and effort to do a detailed job, believe me, it will pay off. If someone thinks you did an amazing job, invites you to come do it weekly, thinks you offer decent rates and are a decent person, they might tell their neighbours about you and before you know it, you’ll be cutting four people’s yards each week and making about $50 every week!

Goodluck!
